The Mavericks’ Raul Malo Has Been Diagnosed With Cancer

Raul Malo, the frontman of Miami country band the Mavericks, has revealed that he has been diagnosed with cancer. In an Instagram reel posted to the band’s account, Malo disclosed that a recent colonoscopy and a subsequent CAT scan revealed “two cancerous spots” in his intestinal system. “The doctors have all agreed that I start therapy after the 4th of July,” Malo shared, while explaining that the specific form of chemotherapy he will undergo “is the least intrusive of all of them.” Malo did prepare the band’s fans that his illness might possibly have an impact on the Mavericks’ 2024 scheduled tour dates.

“Some of the shows may be affected this year as we navigate this situation and see how the therapy goes,” Malo finished up by encouraging his fans to stay vigilant over their health issues. “Go see a doctor. Be proactive in your health. It’ll help fight whatever ails you. Stay healthy, take care of yourselves and I’ll see you out on the road.” (Taste of Country)
