Vince Gill And Amy Grant Reflect On Their 25 Years Together Ahead Of Annual Ryman Christmas Residency

In a joint interview for People, Vince Gill and Amy Grant opened up about their quarter-century together. The two musicians just released their new holiday album, When I Think of Christmas, ahead of their annual Christmas residency at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium beginning on November 29. Gill revealed that in the early days of his friendship with Grant – which would eventually blossom into marriage years later – he wrote a tune about her. “I was writing songs with a buddy of mine, and he said, ‘What do you want to write about today?’” Gill recalls. “I said, ‘Let’s write a song about Amy Grant’s smile.’ He said, ‘Do you even know her?’ I said, ‘Not very well, but she’s sure got a great smile.’” The romantic tune that he and Pete Wasner wrote, “Whenever You Come Around,” would become one of Gill’s biggest hits. Though when Grant heard it, she had no clue she inspired the song. “All I could think of was, ‘Goll, lucky girl,’” Grant remembers, only learning it was written about her years later. (People)
